In 2011 it was estimated that the counterfeit goods market was $600 billion by the International Chamber of Commerce (WSJ, June 2011). Customs (ibid, June 2011).
It has been over ten years since I been an LVMH employee, so the methods of counterfeit production have been finessed. When friends ask me to authenticate their bags (or play "Is this real?"),[url=http://www.sport.fr/sponsoring/uggpascher.html]bottes ugg femmes[/url], it gets more difficult every year.
These days highend designers are embedding their bags with holograms, parts of their bags with chips, and other ways they will not admit to using (I find my answer: "What currently fuses fashion and technologies?", or some such.) Oh, here it is:

While these deterrents are not used in stores, they are used in largescale confiscations of knockoffs. In fact, employees at most premier designer stores are not allowed to authenticate handbags or other goods for walkins.
