Garcia Refusing To Pass Judgment

Good thing, too. Garcia's stock has soared and tumbled, depending on which week this is and how badly the 49ers were beaten the previous game.
This week, Garcia is good, at least in coach 's eyes.
"I like what I see in him," Mariucci concluded, now that Garcia has completed 64 percent of his passing attempts the past four games.
Only days before, there was a much different assessment from general manager , the man who "discovered" the former San Jose State star toiling as a little known scrambling starter in the . In a nationally televised interview last weekend, Walsh said he now views Garcia as "nothing more than a backup."
What a turnaround. Walsh, who signed Garcia in February and disposed of Mariuccifavored by trading him to Cleveland, used to rush to Garcia's defense. It was Mariucci who seemed cool to the idea of having a runhappy quarterback behind center.
It's enough to make Garcia laugh. "There are a lot of crazy things being said, and if that's the way Bill feels, that's the way he feels," said Garcia, who will start his fifth consecutive game Monday night when the team wraps up a dismal season on the road against the 411 . "I also believe that Bill believes in my talents and skills. It doesn't surprise me (Walsh's comments) because I've been underestimated throughout my life."
Certainly the 49ers haven't handed Garcia the No. 1 job, which became open when went down September 27 with a concussion. Garcia began strong, lost his starting position midway through the season and returned as the No. 1 quarterback in the December 5 game at Cincinnati.
Granted, Garcia wasn't very impressive when he threw for only 986 yards, with three touchdowns and five interceptions, in his first five starts. But in his past four starts, the 49ers' offense has improved and so has Garcia. He has thrown six touchdowns and three interceptions and has been much more accurate because of the emphasis on the short game, completing 95 of 148 passes for 1,068 yards.
Is that good enough for next year? With the reality of a bloated 49ers payroll far exceeding the 2000 salarycap limit, it's a fair bet that Young healthy or not will not return. Though the 49ers talk of selecting a quarterback with what's expected to be a top6 pick in next April's draft, they also are woefully deficient on defense and desperately need to restock the secondary.
None of that matters to Garcia anymore. "I'm going to continue to push hard," he said, "and as long as I don't consider myself a backup, I'm not going to be satisfied with anyone else labeling me as just a backup." BRONSON IS DONE: Reserve safety ,moncler homme, who tore his right plantar fascia the ligament across the bottom of the foot in Sunday night's game against Washington, was placed on injured reserve yesterday.
