I swear Fiona constantly gets them, we've done everything we can to prevent them and nothing helps. I'm not truly convinced that they ever really go away. We do the Nystatin all the time and it seems as soon as it's cleared up she has another one.
This time seems worse than usual, she has little pimple/blistery things all over her booty, sides and vaginal area. She was really constipated yesterday, so I wonder if that's somehow a trigger? I'm at a loss and of course it's the weekend so I'm hoping I still have some med left and won't have to wait a billion years for an on call dr to call it in. Her poor little bottom :(
Oh poor girl. My ds has frequent yeast infections also. We switched from nystatin to something else I think its called terbunifine or something,Ill have to run upstairs in a few mins and check. It seems to help. The little bumps could possibly be yeast,that's how ds's rash presents is little red bumps. I know I read something somewhere about yeast, I think it was in a dr sears book I have. Let me check there and see what it says. I thought there was an oral med or something that you can do. Sorry not much help right now,let me get the boys in bed and I will look at those 2 things.
Ok so a few things I read in my book,its the dr sears autism book. Apparently there's a link between ASD behavior and yeast overgrowth. Anyway antibiotics can trigger yeast growth and probiotics can help combat the yeast. Vitamin C may kill yeast,the book says 500mg,but I would check with your dr before doing anything like that. There are also a few supplements you can try I can list them if you like but don't want to make this a ridiculously long reply. There are also certain foods that that can make yeast worse, foods with mold,most cheeses,peanuts,berries,canned tomatoes,leavened breads or breads w/yeast,vinegar,corn,potatoes,refined sugars,sweet fruits like grapes,raisins,citrus,most juices,honey,syrup,chocolate and high fructose corn syrup.
There's also an oral version of nystatin,[url=http://nikefree.mobilejeti.com]nike free sko[/url],and there's a couple stronger meds Diflucan,Nizoral,and the one I was talking about is terbinafine. It comes as an oral med and a cream. The book also states that constipation can trigger the yeast and if constipation is an issue,then try to treat the constipation first. So maybe that's what's triggering her yeast infections assuming she hasn't been on antibiotics. Is she frequently constipated or is this a new thing? I would try to get her stool softened and get her colon clean and see if that helps. In the meantime you could also ask for a different cream like the terbinafine, I think its a bit stronger than nystatin.

Thank you sooo much for all the input. She has been chronically constipated since birth, and after switching GI docs a couple months back we finally got an answer as to why, her anus is too far anterior, so she can only pass very soft stool.
Anyway I upped her miralax today and got things going again, but I noticed the rash before the poop, so I figured it was the constipation, not the poop. Funny that you listed those foods. Since Fi is on a high cal, high fat, high protein diet she eats cheese, and pb all the time. I've been suspecting that she's having some intollerance issues with tomatoes and certain cheeses. how interesting. Now I feel mean for being so frustrated with her today because writing it all out makes me think somethings up and she's just not feeling well :(
For the bottom I always used the vulvar cream that comes when you buy a yeast kit for women, I think its made withmiconazole which kills the yeast (external use only though). I would also add the probiotics, if she can't have yogurt there are powders you can add to water and it tastless or at least to me it was, but even then it can take up to 6 months after antibotic treatments before the bodies flora is back in check for no yeast overgrowth. I agree with trying to regulate the pooping issues I know for Liam it made a world of difference, of course he is now no dairy at all so it was a hard move but if he gets even a small amount of cheese in beans he will be severely constipated the next day (I tried 2x's in the last 6 months to give him small amounts with no luck) so I know its not a dairy allergy but def. something I don't want him to go through. We do the probiotic kids tabs from Whole Foods. She was dairy free, soy free for the 1st 2yrs for MSPI, but we introduced them starting when she turned 2 and now she eats both without much of a problem, but I think she has an intollerance to soft cheeses, they seem to run right through her, same with tomato products. Intersting about the yeast lasting for up to a year, it actually is possible that she has had all along.
As far as the poop goes, I think for Fi, we're at the point where it's as good as it gets. She used to get to the point of needing to go to the hospital for a clean out. It helps that she's older now and we know how to do most of it at home, but she's only getting constipated 12 times a month now (on 12 full caps of miralax a day), vs always constipated before.
My daughter was also overloaded with yeast after a course of antibiotics coupled with reacting to something in my breastmilk.
