Delegation: Is it Time,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]?
Let's start with an image: imagine that your business is a boat. When you started,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it was probably like a canoe. You were the only one in it, and you had to do the paddling, the navigating, and the fishing. But now your business has grown. It's more of a large-scale fishing operation. And if you're still running from the control room to the deck to the galley trying to do everything yourself (or directly oversee everything your crew does),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you're going to wear yourself out and cost your business money.
My clients typically know they need to delegate long before they actually take the plunge. But the longer you wait to delegate (and train your team to take on more responsibility),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the harder the handoff of power will be.
Here are some strategies for implementing delegation when you see that it's time.
• Choose what to delegate. The goal of delegation is to free up your time for what you do best--and what nobody else can replicate. Choose which tasks to delegate based on considerations of cost (how much money it will cost to hire someone for a task,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], how much time it will take to train that person) and benefit (how much time will you save by not doing that task). Remember that some tasks can be delegated to automated systems, too.
• Choose the right team member and communicate expectations. The right person will have the necessary skill-set to complete a task and the drive to complete it well. You can improve the odds of successful delegation by communicating what you need and want clearly, from the beginning.
• Provide training and check-ins. Rather than assigning a task and then hoping it gets done (and using failure as an excuse to take control of it yourself),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], schedule regular check-in periods before a project's due date. This will allow you to provide any support your team member needs while giving him or her the freedom necessary to work independently.
• Let go. Once you've established that your team member can handle the tasks you expect,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], let go. Really. When given incentives and the freedom to innovate,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], people tend to be more invested in their work and produce better results than when they're simply following rigid orders from a boss.

It’s interesting then, that English teachers of all levels like to take these plays and turn them into literary works. It’s hard to graduate college and probably impossible to graduate high school in the United States without having read some Shakespeare. Who knows how difficult it must be to avoid him in England.
Professors can take a lot of approaches when it comes to teaching Shakespeare. Some professors would teach the Bard’s works like they would any other kind of literature: with lots and lots of theory. Economic theory for The Merchant of Venice, racial theory for Othello, psychoanalytic theory for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, just to name a few. They think of Shakespeare’s plays like any other novel they might teach: sure it’s in iambic pentameter, which is slightly unusual for a novel, but Dante wrote the Divine Comedy in terza rima, an arguably more complicated form, and it rarely gets special treatment,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in fact,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], sometimes students read it entirely in prose.
Professors outside of the theory camp believe that there is only one way to interpret a Shakespeare play and that is on the stage. Shakespeare isn’t meant to be read,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it’s meant to be lived. These professors will force awkward eighteen-year-olds not to just read Romeo and Juliet, but to be Romeo and Juliet. They’ll say things like “once more,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with feeling” and remind the reluctant actors that to maintain iambic pentameter,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they might need to occasionally mispronounce common words. Students in these kinds of classes will likely hate each other, because while some are just trying to get their literature credits and get out, others will relish in the opportunity to read aloud dramatically and show off their pronunciation of archaic terms.
Many plays, not just Shakespeare’s,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], are studied like literature. Students can take entire courses on plays as literature and finish the course without ever having a seen a live (or taped) production of the shows they studied, but it rarely seems to happen in the reverse,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], where a novel is only “watched” and not read. If sex was this wonderful, beautiful and intimate act between two people in love, why is it always talked about so negatively? Nobody was acknowledging the importance of sex and sexuality to one’s sense of well-being, not to mention the role it plays in a relationship.
I also knew in my heart of hearts that I could make a difference, but I had to get the training. And I did.
I had been doing volunteer counselling work for three years by then, and realised that there was a jarring gap in the dialogues revolving around sexuality in Singapore. I knew as a professional sexologist, I would have the unique expertise that would allow me to contribute to the well-being of men and women – including helping them develop an understanding of their sexuality and better express themselves through sex and intimacy.
